Team Spotlight: Matt Potter, Web Designer

By Dahlia Lilleslatten, Communications

Matt is our newest addition to design dream team and we are so lucky to have him! In addition to being an all-around rad human, Matt brings serious design chops to North Street. We can’t wait to see how he will continue to elevate the amazing web and branding projects we have lined up.

What were you doing before North Street?

Before North Street, I was full-time freelancing from Dallas, Texas. I’d been doing it over three years and with my move to Providence, I decided it was time to be a part of a team again. There’s something about that kind of collaboration and camaraderie that makes work that much more purposeful.

What have you liked about working at North Street so far?

Everyone is incredibly nice, and their level of talent is off the charts. It’s pushing me to rethink how I design things and how I can be a better designer on a daily basis. They’re also willing to drop whatever they’re working on to answer a question or to help out in some way. It’s the kind of team I’ve wanted to be a part of.

What projects are you the most excited to work on since you joined the North Street team?

Environmental Defense Fund has been a really great client to do work for. It’s been my first chance to learn Principle and to start animating user interactions which has been a lot of fun. Plus, getting to do work for a client that is actively trying to make the world a better place for everyone feels really good.

What do you bring to the company?

I bring a background of being a multidisciplinary designer who has experience designing for a wide range of products. I also try and push myself so that everyday my work is better than the day before.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I love shooting film photography. A friend of mine loaned me his old Mamiya which is this crazy-looking twin-lens reflex camera where you look down into it rather than holding it up to your face like a traditional camera. That was my first real exposure to shooting on film and ever since then I’ve become a major photography nerd. I’ve even started my own collection of photography monographs that I’m hoping might be worth something someday…*fingers crossed.*

Bonus round: how do you start your mornings?

The first thing I do when my feet hit the ground is get dressed and workout. It’s the absolute last thing I want to do at that hour, but it’s a really good way to start the day. After that, I’ll usually have a cup of tea and settle down to read some design blogs before starting work.
